The South Campus of Delhi University (DU) is organizing a two-day interactive open house session for students seeking admission to Post-graduate courses.

The open house is scheduled at 10 am on Tuesday and Wednesday at the S. P. Jain Auditorium.

The south campus offers a total of 21 post graduation courses, including master’s degrees, M. Phils and PhDs.

The two-day long, ‘Interactive Open House Session on Post Graduation Courses’ began Tuesday and will go on till Wednesday. The counselling session included an introduction of various courses in the varsity, an information based multi-media presentation followed by a chance for students to ask questions.

“We always give preference to Delhi University students who have done graduation in the same course in which they want to pursue post graduation. Such students are eligible for direct admission” Dinesh C. Varshney, deputy dean of students’ welfare for the south campus of Delhi University.

The admission, however, is only for subjects like Hindi, political science, history, Sanskrit and electronics.

But those who want to pursue a different subject would need to give an entrance examination and would get admission according to how they perform, he said.

Students will be given a brief about the departments, faculty and courses offered at the South Campus of the varsity.

Open house session will be followed by question-answer session.

SOL is starting its admission process with the rest of the colleges from June 1, when the sale and submission of forms begins for the 2009-10 session.

Besides BA (pass) and BCom (pass), SOL is also offering BA (honours) in English and political science and BCom (honours). The minimum eligibility criteria for BA (pass) and BCom (pass) is class XII pass, whereas BA (honours) English requires at least 50% aggregate in class XII with specific requirement of 70% in English core or 60% in English elective. For the honours programme in political science, students with 45% with political science as one of the subjects or 60% in class XII can join SOL.

August 17 is the first without any late fee followed by September 17 and October 31 with late fees.

After the Class XII results, it’s now time for students to head for colleges. And to help clear students’ doubts about colleges and courses, Delhi University on Sunday organized its first Open Day session at SGTB Khalsa.

The common test for admissions to English (honours) is being held for the first time this year. As of now, 12 DU colleges have agreed to accept CATE scores though DU officials claimed that the number will go up.

The colleges that will admit students on basis of CATE scores are Hindu College, IP College for Women, Kamala Nehru College, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Maharaja Agrasen College, Ram Lal Anand College, Ram Lal College (evening), Satyawati College, Shivaji College, Swami Shraddhanand College, Zakir Husain College and Zakir Husain College (evening). The students will have to apply through separate forms available from June 1 at the department of English in Arts Faculty, North Campus. Students who have scored 60% or above in aggregate as well as in English in class XII are eligible to apply for CATE.

The Open Days will continue till June 3 at different colleges across the city. The second Open Day will be held on Monday at SGTB Khalsa College.

Delhi University conducts ‘OPEN DAYS 2009’ with the aim of providing information about admission procedures, admission process and other related issues. Students who are seeking admission in DU can join  at the following centers.

Delhi University is opening its doors for this year’s school passouts from June. The pre-admission forms for applying to 47 undergraduate courses will be available from June 1 to 15 across 16 centres in the city.

The first cut-off list of various colleges is expected on June 25. Those students who make it to the cut-off marks for the desired course or college can confirm their admission by depositing the fees within the next three days.

However, before the admission procedure begins, the student volunteers and faculty members will organize interactive sessions called Open Days with the aspirants and their parents at seven colleges in different parts of the city.

Meanwhile, the varsity is increasing its seats by 18% this year to implement the OBC quota. Of the total number of seats, 22.5% seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates, 3% for the differently-abled, 5% for the children/widows/wives of men of armed forces killed or disabled in action and 5% for foreign students. DU will hold counselling sessions for centralized registration for SC/ST candidates from June 1 to 15 at the Arts Faculty.

The admission forms for St. Stephen’s college will be available from May 25 to June 15, 2009 till 1 pm.

The admission forms will be released along with the college prospectus for its undergraduate courses.

The forms can be submitted online or download it from the college website – www.ststephens.edu or even by post.

The shortlisted list of the candidates selected for interview will be declared on June 18, 2009.

The interviews may be held between June 20 and July 2.
