BHU PMT Medical Entrance Exam
The Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi annually conducts the pre-medical entrance examination, the BHU PMT, for admission to the various bachelor’s degree medical programs offered at the Institute of Medical Sciences (by the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Ayurveda). These courses include – MBBS (which has 63 seats), BDS (28 seats), B Pharma (28 seats), BAMS (57 seats), and B Pharma Ayurveda (has 30 seats).
To appear in this medical entrance test, you need to have passed the 10+2 Board Exams with a minimum of 50% in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together (minimum 40% for SC and ST category students). Those in the 12th standard can also apply. You should also have completed 17 years and be not more than 25 years of age as on the 31st of December of the year appearing for the test. The application form can either be submitted by post or at the BHU counter by hand against a cash payment.
BHU medical entrance examination is held in two stages for the MBBS program – the preliminary test known as the BHU PMT/PAT Screening, and the final test BHU PMT Main. Only those students who qualify in the former are allowed to sit for the final examination for selection. The other courses have only one test.
The Preliminary Test consists of one paper, which has a duration of three hours, containing questions from physics, chemistry and biology (botany and zoology). The BHU PMT Mains also consists of one paper of three hour duration, with questions on physics, chemistry and biology (botany and zoology).
The question paper contain questions that follow the PCB syllabus of the twelfth standard. It is not a difficult exam and if you are thorough in basics and their applications, you can score well. However, the competition is tough as there the number of applicants is quite high. Thus you have to try to answer the maximum number of questions correctly to ensure admission.
The screening test takes place in Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad. The main test has its center only in Varanasi. BHU PMT is an all India recognized medical entrance test which is solely the responsibility of the university.
