CAT 2010 analysis has been the most searched for phrase off late. Candidates taking the exam look forward to analysis of the exam. Till a year ago the analysis for the CAT exam was used to evaluate the performance in the exam. Candidates who appeared for the said entrance exam used to tally their solutions and answers with the answers given in the analysis and the answer key. It primarily used to be a solution set to the questions.

The exam pattern has undergone a change and therefore there is a change in a lot of other aspects related to the common admission test conducted for admission to the IIMs. Analysis of the 2010 question paper has also accordingly changed. CAT analysis cannot be on the same pattern as before mainly because of the month long window that is a relatively new feature in the examination format. Previously the analysis used to consist of solutions to the exam questions. This was used by those who took the exam, to evaluate their performance and to have a fair idea of the expected score. But with the exam being conducted over a month’s span, CAT 2010 analysis with solutions to the questions does not make sense. Adding to the new format, each candidate will be given a unique CAT question paper. So the whole idea of carrying the analysis of the question paper, as an answer key stands void. The very purpose of the 2010 analysis would be different from the previous years’ analysis.

CAT 2010 analysis would focus on the type of questions to expect, what strategy to adopt, the procedural glitches if any, what to carry to the exam center and things like this. The main pointers in the recently released analysis talk about a review of the test procedure, the center and the attitude of the invigilators & the test taking tips based on the exam pattern and questions. The focus is on informing those who will be taking the test later about the difficulty of the test and the probable problems that can occur.

Online CAT

While CAT 2010 analysis is no more a performance evaluating the tool, the exam pattern has also undergone a change in the past two years. CAT 2009 was the first time that the exam was conducted online. Issue of application form, registration process and issue of admit card to the eligible applicants are some of the important events of the admission process. All these events happen before entrance exam dates. Online CAT 2010 exam started successfully on the 27th of October 2010. It is being conducted over a month long window. The next important event in the admission process would be the declaration of results & scores. A good score is instrumental in getting admission to the top colleges.
